Tuning the pairs
Tune one string of each pair first. Then tune its partner to match. When both strings agree, the pair sounds like a single clean note. If you hear a slow wobble, one string in the pair is slightly off.
Tips
- Mute the partner string with a finger while tuning the other.
- Mandolin bridges float, held only by string tension. Check it stays straight after tuning.
